Terms of Service

1. Who we are
Zemble is made and run by Zemble Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17356888, registered office [registered office address]. You can reach us at support@zemble.net. In these terms, "we" and "Zemble" mean the company, and "you" means the person using Zemble.
2. What Zemble is
Zemble is a web application for planning and writing long pieces of work. It runs in your browser, and it keeps working offline once it has loaded.
Your writing lives on your own device: in your browser's storage and, once you choose a save location, in files on your own disk. We do not receive your writing, we do not store it, and we cannot see it. That is how Zemble is built, and these terms are written around it.
3. Your account
You sign in with your email address and a one-time link we send to it. There is no password. That means anyone who can read your email can sign in to your Zemble account, so keep your email account secure. We are not responsible for anything that happens because someone else got into your email.
Your account holds two things: your email address and whether your subscription is active. Your writing is not part of your account and is not on our servers.
4. Subscriptions, prices and payment
Zemble is a paid subscription. The current prices are on the pricing page. At the time of writing: £8 a month, £60 a year, and a Founders plan at £40 a year for the first 200 subscribers, which stays at £40 for as long as you keep the subscription. Prices include UK VAT; in other countries the checkout shows the price with your local tax applied.
Payment is handled by Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited), who act as merchant of record. That means Paddle is the seller of record for your purchase, your payment contract is with Paddle, and Paddle's own terms apply to the transaction. We never see or hold your card details.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account page or by emailing support@zemble.net. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep full access until the end of the period you have paid for.
Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy and by your legal rights, which nothing here reduces.
5. Your work is always yours
This is the promise Zemble is built on, and we put it in the terms so it binds us.
- Your writing is never held hostage. It lives on your device. Ending your subscription cannot take it from you, because we never had it.
- Reading and export stay free, always. With no subscription at all, you can still open every project and export all of your work, as Word, PDF, plain text, or a complete backup file, for as long as you like.
- What needs an active subscription: creating new projects and cards, and editing existing writing.
- There is a grace period. When a subscription ends, you have 45 days before those limits apply, and Zemble tells you clearly before they do. A missed card payment should never feel like a trap.
- Subscribing again picks up where you left off. Everything is exactly as it was, because it never moved.
6. If Zemble ever closes
If we ever stop running Zemble, we will do what we reasonably can to release a final version of the app with the subscription check removed, so that people who have built their work in Zemble are never locked out of it by our closing.
7. Your licence to use Zemble
We give you a personal licence to use Zemble while your subscription is active, and to use the free reading and export access described above afterwards. The licence is yours alone and cannot be transferred or sold.
You may not copy, share, resell, host, or redistribute the Zemble software, or any substantial part of it. You may not reverse-engineer it or work around the subscription check. You may not use Zemble for anything unlawful. The Zemble software, name, and branding belong to Zemble Ltd.
8. Your writing
Everything you write in Zemble is yours. We claim no rights over it, and we do not receive it. You are responsible for your own content being lawful.
9. Keeping your work safe
Zemble is built to protect your work: it saves as you type, keeps a version history, writes carefully, and has recovery paths for when things go wrong. Even so, because your writing lives on your device, some of the care is yours.
We ask you to choose a save location when Zemble first asks, to keep your own backups with Save a copy, and to install Zemble as an app on your computer. Browsers can clear their stored data, devices fail, and drives get lost. We are not responsible for writing lost because your browser cleared its data, your device failed, or no backup was kept, except where the law says we cannot exclude that responsibility.
10. Changes to Zemble and to these terms
Zemble is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis. We may change, add, or remove features over time, subject to the promise in section 6. We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will tell you by email and inside the app before it takes effect.
11. Our responsibility to you
Our total liability to you for anything arising from Zemble is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
12. Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere and consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live, that right stands.
